Technical

Many people ask us where we get our sets and wardrobe.

That is probably the most often-asked question we get. These sets were designed by Norm Karstensen and our designers, CCT's Technical Director. They were constructed by our incredible crew, assisted by company members, under the eagle eyes of, and with guidance from, Norm, Joy Warner and numerous, fantastic parental volunteers. Lighting, props, sound, and special effects, implemented by our crew, come together the create all our shows. It isn't easy. It takes time, trial and error, and yes, temper! But, you get wonderful sets and an unimaginable sense of accomplishment. Adults guide and direct; company members listen, learn, and labor.

We know theatre is divided unequally. The cast is the most visible, but the crew makes it all work. They set the scene, create the mood, and add the magic. Costuming is always important, but never more than in a historical piece. Authenticity is important, and that unusually translates into expensive. CCT doesn't have the funds or temperament for expensive costume rentals. If not for the creative genius of our costume designers and the hours of hard work done by our wardrobe crew, volunteer parents, and company members themselves (shopping, sewing, painting and gluing), a show would be prohibitively expensive. Costuming for our productions is truly an adventure and not for the faint-hearted.

We are a production company, and we try to give a total theatre experience to all company members. Some members of our shows may join us thinking that theatre is only a performing art, but they soon come to know better.

Where do you get your sets and costumes?

We create them and we take great pride in them!
